Here in Idaho, the arrival of spring is an exciting time. Sure, many of us love the winter snow, but we are usually ready for warmer temperatures to arrive by the time March rolls around (if not earlier). As spring moves in, you might be thinking about giving everything in your life a good cleaning to get it ready for the busy months ahead. Many people go through a spring cleaning routine in their homes, and doing something similar for your vehicle is a good idea.

If you are planning to clean your vehicle this spring, we hope the tips in this article will be of assistance. Of course, at Taylor & Sons Chevrolet, we’d be happy to help in any way we can. A maintenance visit may be in order to take care of some key points, so give us a call to schedule an appointment. Or, if you decide now is the time to get started with a new vehicle, we would be happy to help there as well. We look forward to serving you!

Start on the Inside

One of the easiest ways to make your vehicle a more enjoyable place to spend time is to clean the inside thoroughly. This is a pretty simple task, as long as you have a few basic supplies and pieces of equipment. Specifically, you’ll want to have a vacuum that you can use for the carpets – a small, portable model is usually best – along with some wipes for the dash and other surfaces, and a trash bag to collect any garbage that has been left inside.

If your car is a bit of a mess at the moment, this first clean out may take some time. Once it is done, however, you can stay ahead of the game by making this a weekly routine. Try to pick out one day each week for a quick interior cleanup where you vacuum, wipe everything down and toss out any trash. By only letting a week go between cleanings, the vehicle won’t have time to get that messy, and each cleaning should be quick and easy.

A Thorough Wash

As you might have guessed, the next point we are going to address is washing the outside of your vehicle. After all, it would be a shame to drive around in a car that was clean on the inside but dirty on the outside from bumper to bumper. This is particularly important after a long winter, as it’s likely that the exterior of your vehicle has dealt with quite a bit of rough weather.

There are two options here, and each one of them can work nicely – wash the car yourself, or take it to a car wash. You will save time by just taking the vehicle to a car wash, but you’ll obviously spend more money in the process. On the other hand, washing it yourself is rather cheap (once you buy a few pieces of equipment, which can last a long time), but it does require some time and effort. There isn’t any right or wrong here, so go with the option that suits your needs best.

Make an Appointment

It’s easy enough to take care of what your vehicle needs inside and out – but what about under the hood? For most people, this is where things get a bit tricky. Unless you happen to be a trained mechanic, you’ll probably want to leave the work under the hood to a professional. With that in mind, spring is a great time to make an appointment for your vehicle to get caught up on the various service points it requires.

Obviously, an oil change is something that is usually near the top of this list, so you’ll want to have that done if it is time. Also, an overall inspection of your engine’s condition is a good idea, just to make sure things are on track and to correct any problems before they get bigger. By taking care of your vehicle’s needs as the miles go by, you’ll be more likely to get reliable performance over the long run.

Stay Organized

One of the reasons many car owners fall behind on car care duties is simply because they are disorganized. For example, let’s say you plan on washing your car yourself, once every few weeks. That’s a great plan, and you have already purchased everything you need to do the job. However, after the last time you washed the car, you didn’t wind up putting things back in a central location. You left the bucket outside, the towels you used are sitting up in the laundry room waiting to be cleaned, and you can’t seem to find the soap. Suddenly, what should be a relatively quick and easy job is much more time-consuming simply because you need to track everything down.

Whether we are talking about the inside of your car or the outside, staying organized with your supplies is an easy way to stay on track. You’ll be more inclined to do the jobs when they need to be done just because it won’t take so long to get started. If you have a garage, set aside a spot in the garage where your supplies can be stored when not in use. Then, when the time comes to do some work, you’ll be able to get started in just a matter of moments.

Spring cleaning for your vehicle doesn’t need to be a big chore. Sure, it will take a little bit of time and some effort, but you’ll be happy you did it when you get to drive around town and beyond in a clean, comfortable car or truck. And again, if you need anything in terms of service for your vehicle, or if you’d like to shop for a new one, Taylor & Sons Chevrolet is ready to assist. Thanks for reading!
